Forbes recently named Delaware County as one of the Best Places to Get Ahead suggesting that it’s diverse mix of jobs have kept it’s economy strong and commenting on it’s family friendly neighborhoods. Founded in 1808, Delaware overlooks the Olentangy River that flows through Central Ohio. For several decades throughout the late 1800s and the first half the 1900s it was a popular resort community entertaining the well-to-do from Columbus. Today an old spa building still remains on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan.

As the century moved on and Americans began to spread out, new residents, businesses, and industry began to move in, allowing the area to grow at a modest pace. With the boom of the 1990s the county became one of the fastest growing in the nation.

Walking through the Saturday morning farmers market will provide you with great insight into the dynamics of the city of Delaware, as well as the character of its residents. At the farmers market you will see a variety of unique antique shops, clothing stores, used book stores, and restaurants that often populate small college towns. Together, these retailers keep downtown Delaware vibrant and alive. The residents of Delaware have gone to great length to preserve the historic feel and look of downtown by taking steps to protect the buildings and attract just the right mix of commerce.

An equally important area of focus for Delaware residents is its public education system. The district is actually split into two and include Delaware and Olentangy Schools. Both districts  goals focus around maximizing student performance and providing a safe and effective learning environment and are among the top priorities. Delaware City School District and Olentangy City School District operate several neighborhood elementary schools serving students Pre-K through 4, an intermediate building for students in grades 5 and 6, a 7th and 8th grade middle school, and a 9-12 high school. Lewis Center is an unincorporated community in northwestern Delaware County, located between Columbus and Delaware. The community lies on the east side of the Olentangy River, across from the city of Powell, and west of Alum Creek State Park.

Although Lewis Center is a small community, encompasses a number of shopping centers including and retail establishments that line U.S. Route 23 in the nearby vicinity as well as the nearby Polaris Fashion Place Mall and all that this area has to offer including shopping, dining and restaurants, entertainment including the Rave Theater, and much more.

Lewis Center was founded around 1850 when the railroad was extended to that point. The community was named after the family of William L. Lewis, who gave their land for a railroad station in exchange for the naming rights. A post office called Lewis Centre was established in 1852, and the name was changed to Lewis Center in 1893. The community now including a number of upscale neighborhoods and a median home value of $366,500.
